According to an article in Sioux Falls Business, “52 percent of Jefferson students continued on to a college or technical school, compared to a statewide average closer to 62 percent.” But the story goes beyond a single statistic. After graduation, many students will head to colleges and universities to pursue degrees, others will choose to start building careers right away, and some will step up to serve in the military. For the Class of 2026, these paths will continue.
After graduation, Gabriel Pulford is planning to go to Dordt University in Sioux City, Iowa. He earned a scholarship to play football and plans to major in either business, social work, or education. He is excited about the new environment and meeting new people. Heading to South Dakota State University, Natasha Bryant is planning to attend South Dakota State University to become a Veterinarian. Natasha says that she’s most excited “to meet new people and stay connected with her friends, but is less excited about the challenging anatomy class.”
Following a different path, Blace Swenson is planning to go directly into plumbing. Plumbing is a skilled trade that involves installing and repairing water systems in homes and buildings. This career can pay well, and it allows him to start earning money right away, though it requires training and hands-on learning.
Another route available is joining the military. Payton Sheffield is planning to join the Marines after high school. In the military, he will receive training, develop discipline, and serve the country. He is excited about the opportunity to “earn money and protect others, but not as excited about boot camp and waking up early.”
Overall, life after high school can look different for everyone. But whatever path students pursue can provide opportunities for success and growth.
