As the girls basketball season gets underway, excitement is building, and one player is heading into the year with a clear goal in mind. After months of hard work and preparation, junior Taylor Silvernail is ready to compete, and she hopes to end the season by winning the State Championship. This goal reflects the dedication she and her teammates have shown in the gym, during practice, and throughout the offseason. Every game is another opportunity to grow and move closer to her goal.
There are a few games circled on the calendar. Silvernail believes the biggest games of the season will be the opener against Roosevelt High School, where the Cavaliers were victorious 59–48, and the game against O’Gorman on December 19th. Both were and will be expected to be intense, fast-paced, and filled with energy from the fans and teammates. The student section was really hype during the Roosevelt game, and that definitely made her play better.
More than anything, Silvernail is excited about sharing those moments with the people around her. “I’m most excited to play great competition and win games with my best friends.” The chemistry on the team and the friendships built through basketball make each win even more meaningful.
Silvernail’s game-day routine is simple but important. Before every game, she sticks to the same pregame snack—an apple—to stay focused and ready to play.
Basketball is just one part of her life, but the lessons carry over beyond the court. Whether it’s sports, school, or future goals, she strives to give her best effort in everything she does. With determination, teamwork, and a strong mindset, Silvernail is looking forward to making this season one to remember.
