The Jefferson Baseball team has started off the season with a good record 4-2. This season, the team is hyped and hopes to win the championship for the 2026 season.
First-year teacher and assistant Coach Michael Zeman has a big role in this season and helps not only keep the time on track but also stay hyped throughout games. Zeman’s goals for this season are “to create a positive and fun atmosphere while helping my players learn the game and compete each and every day.” Zeman describes his coaching style as laidback but also very assertive. He wants the best for his athletes but doesn’t want them to not have fun. Zeman’s favorite coaching moment so far was the first practice of the year. It was great just being around all the players, and the other coaches were really excited. It has been a great start to the year with this group. When there is a big game Zeman needs to prepare for his preparation for any game in the days leading up. Our practices leading up to a big game are a great way for our players and me to slow down and prepare the right way.
That leadership doesn’t stop with Coach Zemen. On the field, sophomores Boston Bryant and Noah Grabow have become an outstanding duo. For Bryant, his dad got him first interested in baseball at a young age. The MLB centerfielder, Mike Trout, got Grabow into baseball, and some of his friends were encouraging him to start baseball as well at a young age. Both Grabow and Bryant say that they push each other really hard not only on the field but during school and during practice. “First win of the season against Roosevelt at Augustana” says Grabow as his favorite moment for this season, while Bryant says being with his friends on the field and having fun is his favorite moment.
These boys have some goals set for themselves this season, “Win state with all of my friends and make my family proud” says Bryant. Grabow says he hopes to win state and hit a lot of balls and hit a home run.
As the season continues, the team hopes to keep building on their hard work and prove that they have what it takes to win state and to compete at the highest level.
