As the leaves turn orange and there’s a chill in the air, one flavor always seems to take over every menu and every student’s morning routine: pumpkin spice. From pumpkin lattes to pumpkin muffins, its warm scent fills the air, and the flavor has become both a symbol of fall and a tradition that many look forward to every year.
Pumpkin spice is more than a flavor or drink; it’s the feeling that comes along with it: cozy mornings, fall outfits, and colder weather. Students say it’s the best way to start a fall morning before class! “It just tastes like fall,” says senior Mariah Stearns. However, others have different views. Senior Ersin Suljic jokes, “I know a lot of people like it, but I just can’t stand it.”
Coffee shops all around quickly start selling their pumpkin flavors. Both Starbucks and Scooter’s coffee compete with fall flavors while many choose which shop does it better. “I like it more from Starbucks than from Scooter’s,” say sophomore Sophie Kogel and sophomore Dasia Warwick. Even teachers are hopping on the trend. “I would definitely take Scooter’s pumpkin spice over Starbucks,” explains teacher Lara Ellis. Either way, both spots become go-to stops for fall drinks.
Whether you love it or think the hype is overdone, there’s no denying its popularity. Each year, pumpkin spice manages to capture the excitement of fall all over again; it’s the taste of a new season, familiar, and impossible to ignore. It reminds students to slow down, enjoy the small things, and savor the moments that come with autumn.
