With the start of the new year comes new beginnings and more. It’s a time for New Year’s resolutions and reflecting on what you want your year to look like—where you want to go to college or things you want to do better for yourself.
For some students, this is their last semester in high school ever. Feelings of excitement and fear are setting in as the final months approach. “I feel excited it will be over and I can start my own life, although it’s sad the way time goes so fast and you can never get it back, but it was worth all the memories,” said senior Searra Sullenger when asked how she felt about starting her last semester of high school.
For other students, school-related goals are at the top of the list. Improving grades, staying organized, and managing time better are among the many resolutions students set. With busy schedules packed with classes, sports, and part-time jobs, assignments can be challenging, and making time is important for success.
Another focus for students is health and wellness. This includes getting more sleep, eating healthier, and reducing stress. Between homework and extracurricular activities, prioritizing mental health can be helpful and lead to a more balanced lifestyle.
Personal and social goals are also important for many students. Many strive to get more involved and meet new people. Joining a club in or out of school, going outside your comfort zone, or trying out for a sport are great ways to make new friends and gain independence.
As the new year begins, students are proving that resolutions don’t have to be big, crazy, or even overly meaningful. Whether it’s earning better grades, improving your well-being, or simply trying something new, these goals reflect determination and a fresh start.
