Here in Sioux Falls, we started winter with pretty heavy snow, meaning there might not be as many activities as in the summertime. However, during winter you can still find some fun things to do.
At Winter Wonderland, you can find many beautiful lights. Kristel Mendoza, a freshman at Jefferson, says, “I really enjoy going every year. All the beautiful lights, being able to be up high and see every decoration—I really love to walk around and take pictures with family and friends.” Winter Wonderland at Falls Park recently opened and is usually open from around November 21 through January 5, 2026. The lights are an annual spectacle, and they are definitely not easy to set up. Earlier in 2025, Jacobson Plaza Park also opened and was decorated. They have many events coming up, like the Candy Cane Hunt.
If you enjoy skiing and tubing, Great Bear is your place! Great Bear is a large ski valley in Sioux Falls. They hold many events for family and friends to attend together, such as New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve fireworks. Sledding is also a popular winter activity. Tuthill is a favorite for many individuals because of its steep, fast hill. Spellerberg Park is very wide, making it the perfect location for sledding.
Not an outdoors kind of person? Well, don’t worry, because there are just as many indoor activities as outdoor ones. Thunder Road has some indoor attractions that would be pretty cool to check out. The Washington Pavilion is open to everyone and has some cool science and art exhibits. There are also many events taking place at the Washington Pavilion, such as Irving Berlin’s White Christmas musical on December 18–21. Holiday Jam, featuring the Hegg Brothers performing their popular holiday show, takes place on December 19. In early 2026, even more events will be taking place!
No matter what you choose to do, these activities are fun ways to make memories.
