On and off the field, the JHS marching band hits the notes and steps to victory! They commit to 4-hour practices to perfect their show. On September 20th, Jefferson’s marching band took on their first competition of the season at the regional events center’s Mattke Field in Marshall, Minnesota. The competition gave the band a chance to present this year’s show. Band senior, Reese Cobb, explains, “This year’s show tells the story of standing up to darkness and bringing light into the world.”
The band’s first-place performance presents the story of light fighting the darkness, an intense battle between good and evil and showing the audience that light always illuminates the shadows. The Jefferson marching band persevered through heavy rain and cut rehearsal just before the competition and walked off the field with their first place trophy despite the hurdles thrown at them! The band continues to practice every Tuesday and Thursday to hone their skills and choreography to perfection. The marching band also has the help of their tech crew, who provide assistance with maintaining the stage set, props, materials, and the performance itself! Tech members move the pillars and throne during the performance to help bring life to their story, providing even sharper, more comfortable shows throughout the season. Marching band is just one of the many forms of storytelling, using their music and movement to really bring their message to light.
