Homecoming royalty is more than just a Cavs tradition; it shows the students who embody school spirit and leadership.
When asking Brooks Heiser & Sky Kane about their favorite thing about this Homecoming week, Kane lights up sharing how much she enjoyed door decoration with her 3rd period class (Shout out to AP LIT with Ms. McMackin). Heiser said what stood out to him the most was all the school spirit and camaraderie that fills the halls. He says, “It’s a really special thing to see everyone come together.”
When reflecting on their favorite part of the Homecoming tradition, Heiser points at the energy at the football games. He says that the high turnout at the game makes the student section go crazy, which makes the game even better, while Kane said she loves all the excitement of planning and dressing up on spirit days.
Kane shared that becoming Homecoming Queen shows that she’s been able to make a positive impact on her peers, just how others made a lasting impact on her. For Heiser, it goes a little bit deeper; he shared that his becoming Homecoming King represents Jefferson’s incredible Fine Arts program and the hardworking students that bring these programs to life.
When it comes to advice for underclassmen, Heiser encourages students to take advantage of all the opportunities high school has to offer, step outside of your comfort zone, try new things, and “connect with new people and make it yours.” Kane kept it simple but powerful: “Live your life! Do the things you want, even if you have to do them scared.”
With the crowns on their heads and the Cavalier spirit in their hearts, Kane and Heiser show what Homecoming here at Jefferson High School is all about!
