Have you ever wondered who transforms the halls into school spirit for Homecoming week? As the anticipation builds for Homecoming week, the student council has been hard at work to plan and decorate the school and get ready for all the festivities. It might seem like the student council just decorates the halls, but that is only a portion of what they do. From months of deciding the dress up days to setting up for the Homecoming dance, there is so much more to it!
This year you may have noticed there wasn’t a talent show on the Monday of coronation. The student council decided to try something different this year. On Monday, from 7-9 PM girls played flag football while boys played volleyball. Since this was everyone’s first year ever doing this event, lots of people were curious and excited to watch. “It was fun and I would definitely do it again,” said senior Amirrah Jackson, who was on a flag football team.
Also taking place on this day was the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen. The student council stood on the auditorium stage and showed the candidates’ videos. First up was the King’s crowning and Brooks Heiser won. The tension had been building and the Queen was crowned and Sky Kane won. The crowd yelled and clapped in excitement.
Another well-known event is the Homecoming dance after the football game. The dance took place from 8-10 PM and was full of games and snacks. There was basketball and gaga ball down in the gym and the dance floor in the commons. People were having an awesome time dancing with their friends and playing competitive games.
The student council never fails with an awesome Homecoming week every year and leaves us with so many memories. “My favorite part about Homecoming is probably deciding what the themes are,” said sophomore Sienna Boyden, who is a member of the student council.
