Since the school opened, wrestling has been constant and growing throughout its history. As each season progresses, we’ve seen more students qualify for state and lettering in wrestling each year. Wrestling has also been opening opportunities for those who aren’t in high school and are still interested in wrestling for Jefferson, such as the Junior Cavs Youth Wrestling program; wrestling, overall, has been a constant throughout Jefferson’s time being open, and the program continues to grow every year.
Todd Wells, the head coach, commented, “ We’ve had a really good culture these last three years, and we hope to continue that. Probably one of our number one things about wrestling is the culture we have.” The roster includes many students who have previously qualified for state and those who lettered for wrestling. Some of the students include Carter Dahl who qualified for state, Sam Glesiah who lettered, and Jumah DuKuly who lettered and placed 5th in state. There are also the notable seniors Aidan Wells and Ayden Dooley who are in their fourth and final year in wrestling for Jefferson. Both are repeating state qualifiers and have been with the team since the beginning. We look forward to seeing how they end their final season and how their impact will manifest after they graduate in the spring.
The youth program Jefferson hosts every year is an opportunity for younger kids in elementary school to get involved with wrestling for Jefferson. This program is open to kids of many ages; it has its own tournaments for those involved. It’s an excellent opportunity for those who aren’t quite at the high school age to start wrestling as a student at Jefferson.
We look forward to seeing the team progress to new heights this year. Mr. Wells is looking forward to a great year by reaching a new level of excellence. Good luck to this year’s Wrestling team! Go Cavs!
