Portraits offer glimpses of who a person is. We love to look back and be reminded of special times in our history. This fall, Mr Hulstine’s Photo II class participated in a Portrait Unit that enabled students to learn how to capture memories for seniors. Members of the class of ‘25 volunteered to pose for portraits to assist the class with their end goal.
Before the photo shoots occurred, photographers met with their assigned volunteers and discussed shooting locations, themes, styles, backdrops, and poses. The time together also enabled photo students to become familiar with their subject’s personality, so they could strategize on how to best capture that person in pictures. Following the photo shoot, the volunteers received proofs and edits for their use.
Student Christopher Villa Pineda commented on his experience as a subject, “What impressed me about the whole experience was how professional Annabelle (the photographer) was and how she seemed to know exactly what the camera needed to do to adjust to the different elements that came about with us when walking around downtown and around the Falls. She seemed to know what kind of lighting would be best for the photos, where the lighting needed to be, what placements I should be in, and, in general, made me laugh throughout the session which opened me up to suggestions and, obviously, better portraits. I’m happy with how each photo came out, and, honestly, if she starts a photo company or something, I would go to her for professional portraits and photos.”
